The girls got the opportunity to try a new food at lunch today- tofu! I have to admit that this was also my first experience with this food by itself. I bought some super firm cubed tofu at the store the other day. I rolled it in a beaten egg then in a mixture of breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, salt and Parmesan then fried it in olive oil. It tasted a little like fried mozzarella but not as gooey and stringy. It actually wasn't bad although Hannah, Taylor and I were the only ones who ate it. Due to the fact that in a few years we may not be able to tell cloned meat from regular at the supermarket, I am trying to get everyone adjusted to going to a more meatless diet. I am doubting DH will want to try this one though!

My husband became a vegetarian last year, so we have experimented with this as well. Mostly we eat protein added pasta, egg, cheese, and peanut butter for our proteins. I think tofu is best in a chinese stir fry. These are very easy to do with any veggies (included frozen), soy sauce, and I usually start with a little garlic and onion sauteeing in sesame oil. Of course, my child is just like I was as a child - no mixing of foods!

We are converting to vegetarianism, hoping to end in veganizm. We started when my husband was diagnosed with kidney failure a couple months ago. We decided to try eating vegeatarian during the week and meat for one meal each day on Saturday and Sunday. It has been slow going but we are learning we like the meals almost as much. Our first taste of tofu was NASTY! I chunked it, bbq'ed and baked it. First of all I learned, tofu needs to marinate...LOL. Second of all, if you want to bake it, make sure you bake it long enough to make the texture be the way you want it. Ours was slimy and gross. Our second try with tofu was in a stir fry where I bought the small cubed tofu, marinated it in a ginger garlic sauce I made and then stir fried it with veggies and served with brown rice. It was a big hit! I have also made smoothies with the silken tofu that were huge hits. I am slowly trying new recipes and posting them on my food blog as I go. Right now I don't have many, but keep checking back as I will be adding more. Most probably won't be tofu, but the only ones I will post are the ones that we like. :)
